The Essenes were an ancient Jewish cultural sect that lived in Israel. They lived in communal settings outside of the cities. There were two main sects, the B'nai Amen and the B'nai Zadok. The B'nai-Amen were Nazareans, and the B'nai-Zadok were Ossaeans. Jesus was a part of the B'nai Amen in Mt. Carmel, the Nazareans, "He shall be called a Nazarean!" (Matthew 2:23). Many documents from ancient historians exist that describe the Essene way of life, which was extremely mystical in nature, especially the Essenes of Mt. Carmel. Some examples of historians and others that wrote about them are Flavius Josephus; Philo of Alexandria (30 BC-40 AD); Pliny the Elder; Dio Chrysostom; Hippolytus of Rome; Eusebius, the Bishop of Caesarea (AD 300). Some of the documentation from those listed was criticism aside from good because of the changes that took place when the Romans decided to adopt Christianity as their church out of an orthodox movement. In rejecting the "Jewish Christians," as they referred to the Essenes, they created their own philosophies and dogmas that were very different from what Jesus actually taught. For example, the Essenes lived in communal formations where there was no ownership. They lived freely in an agricultural setting and as Josephus states …they would rather "render their minds truly holy than offer animal sacrafice". The Essenes of Mt. Carmel were vegetarians, and this premise was taught by Jesus in certain documents within the Essene Gospel of Peace and The Gospel of the Holy Twelve. The Essene Gospel of Peace was an Aramaic document written in third century BC; found within the Secret Archives of the Vatican by Edmond Bordeaux Szekely and released in English in 1937 to the public. Szekely was a prominent philologist in Sanscrit, Aramaic, Greek and Latin and spoke ten modern languages. Following the discovery of the Essene Gospel of Peace, and then later, the Dead Sea Scrolls, he has written countless pieces about who the Essenes and Jesus really were based on documents that had been hidden from the public for thousands of years. The Gospel of the Holy Twelve is a document that has been simply labeled as "found" by a Reverend Gideon Ouseley in 1881. This document supposedly reads very closely to the un-tampered texts used by ancient New Testament Essenes. It is important to note that the Essenes were also amazing healers, and they studied ancient literature, the healing of diseases, of the roots offering protection, and of the properties of stones. They believed in peace as their underlying principle of life and found this peace deeply within their relationship to the elements. Every morning and evening they performed communions with the Angels of many forms of life and were deeply committed to reaffirming their relationship with the Earthly Mother and the Heavenly Father. As you can see, they believed in the feminine aspect of God, and women within the Essene Nazareans were treated as equals, as well as the elderly, who were treated with great respect as keepers of wisdom. The community also practiced ritual washing, which eventually came to be known as the ceremony of "baptism" by the Orthodox Christians. There is so much to learn from the philosophy of the Essenes and Jesus, and it is exciting that today we can see from an outside perspective the truth they both taught. Mt. Carmel was a holy and mystical place where sacred principles of the Nazarean Essenes were taught. In The Life of Pythagoras by Jamblichus, 2nd Century, it was noted that Pythagoras visited the Essene sanctuary atop Mt. Carmel and after he left he held a peace that transformed those around him. He went on to teach vegetarianism, reincarnation, fasting and sacred geometry to his followers in Greece, all principles the Essenes taught and believed in. Mt. Carmel went on to eventually be used by the Monks of Mt. Carmel who lived in white robes (as the Essenes traditionally dressed) and believed in the mysticism that was so revered in the past there. Unfortunately, many changes began to take place around 135 C.E. The Gentile Christians, as the orthodox movement was called, began to gain momentum and appointed an anti-Essene leadership in Rome. Jerusalem at that time was the center of Christianity, and Eusebius writes in History of the Church that the Jewish-Christians (Essene Nazareans) had a "Nasarene" Temple in the Essene quarter of the city. Once the anti-Essene leadership began to enact, it created rules against eating, having marriage or sex between Christians and Jews, this included the "Jewish Christians" or Essenes. They also exiled the overseer of the "Nasarenes" and followers of Yeshua (Jesus) from Jerusalem in 135 C.E. This hostile movement among the orthodox Christians led eventually to propaganda that was geared to defile the Essene way of life. Epiphanius, a Catholic Bishop of Constantia in the 4th Century AD wrote a document called Panarion, which denounced non-Catholic Christian groups. He even comments in the book that the original followers of Jesus were Essenes. He called them heretics because their teachings were not consistent with the newly adopted teachings by the Catholic/Orthodox church. By 325 AD the Council of Nicea took place in Rome. This council then began to rewrite all sacred texts and any people who supported the "unorthodox" scriptures were arrested and killed by Roman Church henchman. Correctors were then appointed by the church authorities, and these individuals are the ones that rewrote the original documents of the original Christians, the Essenes. Those who were of the Essenes of Mt. Carmel, etc. began to disperse and practice their life underground and in different locations because of the threats posed upon them. The Essenes presented a way of life that can literally unearth a pathway of instruction in attaining Christ Consciousness when lived and felt within your heart. Their community incorporated an integral belief that Jesus came here to teach about the complete power within each individual resulting from our direct connection to the Heavenly Father and the Earthly Mother. We each have the ability to attain Christ Consciousness as Jesus and even Siddhartha did, and in understanding this power, we do not need outside sources such as the leadership of an organization to bring us to this state. This principal clearly illustrates why the Roman Orthodox church so outwardly opposed the original teachings of Jesus and the community he came from. As a spiritual being, you had the power to take the steps to attain Christ Consciousness, such as healing thyself. This is what was meant by Jesus when he stated, "Physician, heal thyself!" (Luke 4:23). To me, this is part of my mission in life in working as a healer, that I am hear to work as a medium of healing energy so that I may not only heal myself, but help others heal themselves. Essene Gospel of Peace, Book 4, The Sevenfold Peace "Three arc the dwellings of the Son of Man, and no one may come before the face of God who knows not the angel of Peace in each of the three. These are his body, his thoughts, and his feelings. When the angel of Wisdom guides his thoughts, when the angel of Love purifies his feelings, and when the deeds of his body reflect both love and wisdom, then does the angel of peace guide him unfailingly to the throne of his Heavenly Father. And he should pray without ceasing that the power of Satan [referring to the lower-self/lower ego] with all his diseases and uncleannesses may be cast out of all of his three dwellings; that Power and Wisdom and Love may reign in his body, his thoughts, and his feelings."
